Laser Ortho

Also known as Gingivoplasty. is a minor surgical procedure that consist in the total removal of a portion of gingiva (gum) from in and around a tooth or teeth. It is often done to simply  correct deformities in the gums and make them look better or more natural. It is done alone, but can be done during or after a gingivectomy procedure.

Laser Ortho Procedure

first Dr. Peggy administers a local anesthetic to numb the area that will be treated. Then she will clean your teeth to ensure the area is free of plaque and calculus from the area (likely, periodontal scaling and root planing). Then the tissue is trimmed and removed, in most cases no sutures (stitches) are required. The surgical sites will be sore for 24-48 hours, and medication will be provided to alleviate any discomfort experienced. A week follow-up appointment is usually needed to ensure proper healing.

Post-Laser Ortho Care

Dr. Peggy will give you specific instructions regarding postoperative care, such as diet, physical activity, and medications. Do not floss or brush the gum line that was repaired until the area has healed. You will be asked to rinse your mouth with a special mouth rinse to help control plaque during the healing process, and you may be put on an antibiotic to reduce the risk of infection.

For a week or two following the surgical procedure, eat soft, cool foods, such as eggs, pasta, Jell-O, yogurt, cottage cheese, well-cooked vegetables, and ice cream. During healing period, you should be able to return to work or normal activity the day after surgery.
